THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS TO SUPPORT THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE BUDDHIST RELIGION, IN PARTICULAR BY:1. ENCOURAGING AND FACILITATING MEMBERS AND OTHERS TO LIVE ETHICAL, SPIRITUAL, PURPOSEFUL LIVES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TEACHINGS OF THE BUDDHA; 2. OVERSEEING A PROCESS FOR EXISTING ADHERENTS TO TRAIN FOR ORDINATION INTO THE TRIRATNA BUDDHIST ORDER; AND CONDUCTING ORDINATION CEREMONIES; 3. SUPPORTING THE COHERENCE OF THE TRIRATNA BUDDHIST ORDER WORLDWIDE, THROUGH OFFERING A UNIFIED ORDINATION; 4. SUPPORTING ORDAINED MEMBERS OF THE TRIRATNA BUDDHIST COMMUNITY AND OTHER DULY ORDAINED BUDDHISTS, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CIO; 5. MAINTAINING CLOSE COMMUNICATION WITH OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS CONNECTED WITH THE TRIRATNA BUDDHIST ORDER AND COMMUNITY; IN CO-OPERATION WITH OTHER GROUPS WITH THE SAME OBJECTS; AND, 6. USING APPLICATIONS OF THE BUDDHA’S TEACHING TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF ALL.
