3.OBJECTS• THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY PRESERVING, PROMOTING AND SHARING THE HISTORY, HERITAGE AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE WINDRUSH GENERATION, THEIR DESCENDANTS, AND THE WIDER LONG EATON COMMUNITY.• THE ADVANCEMENT OF GOOD CITIZENSHIP FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY: (A) PROMOTING VOLUNTEERING, CIVIC PARTICIPATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, PARTICULARLY AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE AND EMERGING COMMUNITY LEADERS; (B) PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THAT SUPPORT PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY LIFE; AND (C) SUPPORTING PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES THAT DELIVER VOLUNTEERING, CIVIC PARTICIPATION OR LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND THEREBY STRENGTHEN CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY WITHIN THE LONG EATON COMMUNITY.• THE RELIEF OF THOSE IN NEED BY REASON OF YOUTH, AGE, ILL-HEALTH, DISABILITY, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR OTHER DISADVANTAGE, INCLUDING BY PROVIDING SHORT-TERM ASSISTANCE WITH ESSENTIAL NEEDS (FOR EXAMPLE FOOD, PRESCRIPTIONS OR ESSENTIAL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS), COMPANIONSHIP AND SIGNPOSTING TO APPROPRIATE SERVICES, IN EACH CASE ONLY WHERE NECESSARY TO FURTHER THIS CHARITABLE PURPOSE.FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CONSTITUTION, “WINDRUSH GENERATION” REFERS TO PEOPLE FROM CARIBBEAN COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES WHO SETTLED IN THE UK IN THE POST-WAR PERIOD COMMONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARRIVAL OF MV EMPIRE WINDRUSH IN 1948 AND SUBSEQUENT MIGRATION IN THE DECADESFOLLOWING, AND MAY INCLUDE THEIR DESCENDANTS AS APPROPRIATE TO THE EDUCATIONAL SUBJECT-MATTER.
