ICVA WILL ACHIEVE THIS BY ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING MEANS:• PROVIDING EDUCATION, INFORMATION, GUIDANCE AND TRAINING TO POLICE INDEPENDENT CUSTODY VISITING SCHEMES AND VOLUNTEERS ON BEST PRACTICE, LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND ETHICAL STANDARDS RELATING TO POLICE CUSTODY AND DETENTION.• DEVELOPING AND SUPPORTING THE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE PROVISION OF INDEPENDENT CUSTODY VISITING AND PROMOTING PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF ITS ROLE AND VALUE.• EVALUATING AND REPORTING ON THE TREATMENT OF PERSONS HELD IN POLICE CUSTODY AND ON CONDITIONS WITHIN POLICE CUSTODY FACILITIES, INCLUDING COMPLIANCE WITH HUMAN RIGHTS INSTRUMENTS AND OTHER LEGISLATION, SUCH AS, THE POLICE AND CRIMINAL EVIDENCE ACT 1984 (PACE) ITS CODES OF PRACTICE AND OTHER RELEVANT LEGISLATION.• CONDUCTING, COMMISSIONING AND DISSEMINATING RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS INTO HUMAN RIGHTS, LEGAL SAFEGUARDS AND CUSTODIAL PRACTICES IN POLICE CUSTODY.• PROVIDING INFORMED ADVICE AND GUIDANCE TO GOVERNMENT, PUBLIC AUTHORITIES AND OTHER RELEVANT BODIES ON LEGAL, POLICY AND HUMAN RIGHTS MATTERS RELATING TO POLICE CUSTODY.• CONTRIBUTING TO THE SOUND ADMINISTRATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF LAW, POLICY AND PRACTICE RELATING TO POLICE CUSTODY, AND PROMOTING LAWFUL, ETHICAL AND RIGHTS-COMPLIANT CONDUCT BY ORGANISATIONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARE AND WELFARE OF PERSONS DETAINED IN CUSTODY.• RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES AFFECTING PERSONS IN POLICE CUSTODY, AND PROMOTING RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE, BOTH WITHIN THE UK AND, WHERE APPROPRIATE, INTERNATIONALLY.TO ENGAGE IN POLITICAL ACTIVITY PROVIDED THAT THE TRUSTEES ARE SATISFIED THAT THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE PURPOSES OF THE CHARITY TO AN EXTENT JUSTIFIED BY THE RESOURCES COMMITTED AND THE ACTIVITY IS NOT THE DOMINANT MEANS BY WHICH THE CHARITY CARRIES OUT ITS OBJECTS.THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN MATTERS AND ISSUES CONCERNING THE RIGHTS, ENTITLEMENTS, HEALTH AND WELLBEING, AND THE CONDITIONS OF FACILITIES, OF PERSONS WHO ARE HELD IN CUSTODY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AND ELSEWHERE.
