THE OBJECT OF THE CHARITY IS TO FURTHER THE RELIGIOUS AND OTHER CHARITABLE WORK OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND IN THE DIOCESE OF LIVERPOOL AND IN PARTICULAR, TO RELIEVE (EITHER GENERALLY OR INDIVIDUALLY) ACCREDITED MINISTERS (LAY OR ORDAINED) WHO ARE LICENSED TO WORK IN THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND IN THE DIOCESE OF LIVERPOOL AND THEIR DEPENDANTS WHO ARE IN CONDITIONS OF NEED, HARDSHIP OR DISTRESS. THE TRUSTEES MUST GIVE PREFERENCE TO THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL, THE PARISH OF WALTON ON THE HILL, THE TOWNSHIP OF TOXTETH (ALL AS CONSTITUTED ON 10 MAY 1886) AND THE DEANERY OF WIGAN.
