Charitable objects

The Objects of the CIO are:To relieve the suffering of victims of hostage-taking (which expression shall include kidnapping and abduction) and of state-perpetrated arbitrary detentions, being the hostages or detainees and their families or the released hostages or detainees and their families by:(a) Providing support to the hostages or detainees and their families during and after a hostage-taking or arbitrary detention;(b) Providing education and training relating to the support of victims of hostage-taking and arbitrary detention and similar incidents; (c) Advocating for better support for the victims of hostage-taking and arbitrary detention; and(d) Advancing public knowledge and understanding of hostage-taking and arbitrary detention and their effects. Nothing in this constitution shall authorise an application of the property of the CIO for the purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
