TO ADVANCE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD THE EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN FAITH WHICH SHALL MEAN THE FAITH BASED UPON THE DOCTRINAL BASIS OF THE CIO AND AND IN PARTICULAR, TO:5.1.1 PROMOTE THE UNITY AND WELFARE OF CHURCHES OF CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS WHICH ARE UNDENOMINATIONAL IN CONSTITUTION OR WHICH HAVE COME TO OCCUPY A POSITION OF DETACHMENT FROM THE DENOMINATIONAL BODIES WITH WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED BUT WITHOUT NECESSARILY ALTERING THEIR CONSTITUTIONS, ALL SUCH CHURCHES FINDING THEIR UNITY ON THE BASIS OF THE COMMON ADHERENCE TO THE FUNDAMENTAL DOCTRINES OF PROTESTANT EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANITY AS SET FORTH IN THE DOCTRINAL BASIS AND THE ETHOS STATEMENTS;5.1.2 FOSTER AND ENCOURAGE A RECOGNITION OF THE ESSENTIAL ONENESS OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST AND AT THE SAME TIME A RECOGNITION OF THE LIBERTY OF EACH INDIVIDUAL CHURCH TO CONDUCT ITS WORK AND WORSHIP IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS OWN INTERPRETATION OF THE TEACHING OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURE IN RELATION THERETO; AND5.1.3 TO PROMOTE UNITED TESTIMONY TO AND DEFEND THE BELIEFS SET FORTH IN THE DOCTRINAL BASIS
