1) FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF ALL IN THE HISTORY OF THE LIFEBOAT SERVICES AND SAVING LIVES AT SEA, BY THE PRESERVATION, OPERATION AND EXHIBITION OF HISTORIC LIFEBOATS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TOWN OF WHITBY AND ITS ENVIRONS. 2) FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF ALL IN THE TECHNIQUES REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN HISTORIC CRAFT BY PROVIDING OPORTUNITIES FOR SUPERVISED TRAINING AND WORK ON THESE CRAFT. 3) FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO PROVIDE AN OPORTUNITY FOR PARTICIPATION BY ALL IN PHYSICAL ACTIVTY, SPECIFICALLY ROWING, ALLOWING DEVELOPMENT OF BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH. 4) FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO PROMOTE ANY CHARITABLE PURPOSE OR PURPOSES WITHIN WHITBY AND THE SURROUNDING AREA AND WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE CHARITABLE WORK OF THE ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTE.
