THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS:TO PROMOTE THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN PETERBOROUGH AND THE SURROUNDING AREA, IN PARTICULAR BY BUILDING CAPACITY AND SKILLS AMONG COMMUNITY LEADERS THROUGH THE PROVISION OF TRAINING, MENTORING AND PRACTICAL SUPPORT DESIGNED TO EQUIP SUCH LEADERS TO IMPROVE THE SERVICES OFFERED BY VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS IN TERMS OF EFFICIENCY, EFFECTIVENESS AND QUALITY.FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CLAUSE, ‘THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR’ MEANS CHARITIES AND VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS DEFINED AS FOLLOWS: • CHARITIES ARE ORGANISATIONS, WHICH ARE ESTABLISHED FOR EXCLUSIVELY CHARITABLE PURPOSES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW OF ENGLAND AND WALES. • VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS ARE INDEPENDENT ORGANISATIONS, WHICH ARE ESTABLISHED FOR PURPOSES THAT ADD VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, OR A SIGNIFICANT SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY, AND WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED BY THEIR CONSTITUTION TO MAKE A PROFIT FOR PRIVATE DISTRIBUTION.
