THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS: FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT TO RELIEVE SICKNESS AND PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF SUFFERERS OF LIFE LIMITING PAEDIATRIC MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY POLG RELATED MITOCHONDRIAL DISORDERS INCLUDING ALPERS HUTTENLOCHER SYNDROME, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND CARERS BY ALL OR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MEANS:(1) THE PROVISION OF GRANTS TO PROMOTE MEDICAL RESEARCH INTO PAEDIATRIC MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE, THE USEFUL RESULTS OF WHICH WILL BE PUBLISHED, WITH THE AIM OF FINDING A CURE AND MEDICATION TO ASSIST IN TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF THE CONDITION; (2) RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT ALL AND ANY ISSUES RELATED TO PAEDIATRIC MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE AMONG THE PUBLIC AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS;(3) PROVIDING FAMILIES LIVING WITH PAEDIATRIC MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE WITH SERVICES, ITEMS, INFORMATION AND SUPPORT, INCLUDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT WHERE POSSIBLE.
