THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS:THE PROMOTION OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN ENGLAND AND WALES BY SEEKING TO ADDRESS THE UNDERREPRESENTATION OF WOMEN FROM MINORITY ETHNIC (ME) BACKGROUNDS IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION AND TO REDUCE THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC BARRIERS THAT OFTEN AFFECT WOMEN FROM ME BACKGROUNDS IN ENTERING THE PROFESSION, IN PARTICULAR THE CIO WILL PROVIDE RESOURCES AND EVENTS WHICH SEEK TO:• INCREASE THE NUMBER OF WOMEN FROM ME BACKGROUNDS STUDYING LAW AND ENTERING THE LEGAL PROFESSION; • PROVIDE TARGETTED SUPPORT ENABLING PARTICIPANTS TO DEVELOP KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS DESIGNED TO PREPARE THEM FOR A CAREER IN LAW;• PROVIDE A NETWORK FOR COMMUNICATION, SUPPORT, ASSISTANCE AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN FROM ME BACKGROUNDS WISHING TO PURSUE A CAREER IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION;WITH THE AIM OF CULTIVATING A SENTIMENT IN FAVOUR OF EQUALITY AND CONTRIBUTING TO A MORE DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE LEGAL SECTOR WHICH REFLECTS SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.
