THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO, TO BE CARRIED OUT FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN ESSEX, SOUTHEND-ON-SEA AND THURROCK, ARE:1) TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES BY IMPROVING ACCESS TO APPROPRIATE HEALTHCARE, PROMOTING GOOD PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH, EDUCATING HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS, PATIENTS AND CARERS, SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROVISION OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES DESIGNED TO MEET THEIR NEEDS, AND UNDERTAKING OR SUPPORTING RESEARCH INTO HEALTHCARE ACCESS, HEALTH INEQUALITIES AND HEALTH OUTCOMES, THE USEFUL RESULTS OF WHICH WILL BE PUBLISHED, WITH THE AIM OF REDUCING HEALTH INEQUALITIES AND IMPROVING HEALTH OUTCOMES.2) TO PROMOTE SOCIAL INCLUSION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AMONG PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED OR AT RISK OF SOCIAL EXCLUSION, BY PREVENTING THEM FROM BECOMING SOCIALLY EXCLUDED, RELIEVING THE NEEDS OF THOSE WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED AND ASSISTING THEM TO INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY, IN PARTICULAR THROUGH THE PROVISION OF SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, EDUCATION, TRAINING AND SUPPORT DESIGNED TO DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS, CONFIDENCE, INDEPENDENCE AND PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY.
