THE OBJECTS FOR THE CENTRE SHALL BE TO MAINTAIN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OXFORD CENTRE FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THROUGH THE CENTRE THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION AND CHARITABLE RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ISLAMIC STUDIES, WHICH INCLUDE STUDIES OF THOSE ARTS AND SCIENCES DERIVED FROM OR OF RELEVANCE TO THE ISLAMIC TRADITION AND THE NEEDS OF MUSLIM SOCIETIES AND SUBJECTS WHICH ARE IN THE OPINION OF THE COUNCIL ANCILLARY THERETO PARTICULARLY BY AND IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THROUGH THE CENTRE THE ADVANCEMENT OF AN UNDERSTANDING OF ISLAM FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT.
