TO PROMOTE A FULLER MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CHURCHES REPRESENTED ON THE COUNCIL, AND TO ASSIST THE GROWTH OF ECUMENICAL CONSCIOUSNESS AMONG THEIR MEMBERS. TO ENABLE THE LOCAL CHURCHES TO TAKE UNITED COUNSEL AND ACTION WHERE THEIR COMMON INTERESTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE INVOLVED. TO CONSIDER ISSUES WHICH AFFECT THE SPIRITUAL AND MORAL WELFARE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, AND TO GIVE GUIDANCE AND TAKE ACTION AS MAY BE THOUGHT APPROPRIATE IN THE LIGHT OF THE CHRISTIAN GOSPEL. TO GIVE SUCH EXPRESSION TO THEIR COMMON FAITH AND DEVOTION AS MAY FROM TIME TO TIME BE FOUND DESIRABLE, HAVING DUE REGARD TO THEIR DIFFERENT USAGES AND TRADITIONS.
