Share of pupils. Free school meals and language: school census, 2025/26. Special educational needs: 2025/26. England figures are for the same type of school, same years. Sources: DfE school census and Special educational needs in England (OGL v3.0), via WhatSchool. "Within 3 miles" is the simple average of the same figure for schools of the same type within 3 miles (4.8 km), not weighted by pupil numbers, using only schools with a figure for the same year; it is shown only when at least 3 schools qualify.

Taking a free meal on census day
37.9% eligible pupils who took a meal, share of all pupils on roll

These are different official measures and are never filled in from each other: the census figure counts pupils eligible on census day as a share of all pupils on roll (DfE, Schools, pupils and their characteristics 2025/26); the register figure is the performance-table measure held in Get Information about Schools (24 Oct 2026 extract), with its own population and census date. They differ by more than 0.05 points in 45% of schools.

Understanding this data

EHC plan
An education, health and care plan is a legal document from the local council for a child with needs that cannot be met by the school's usual support. It names the support the child must get.
SEN support
Extra help given by the school itself to a child with special educational needs who does not have an EHC plan.
SEN information report
Every school must publish a report on how it supports pupils with SEN. Look for it on the school website.
