Wales Primary School was opened in 1876 with the building facing the main road - known as the infant building and house - being the school's only building at this time. As the school community grew in the subsequent decades, further buildings across the school site were built to accommodate more pupils. A foundation stage was built in 2002 attached to the school hall.
The most recent addition to the school site is a modular building built in 2015 as school for the first time increased to 8 classes as the demand for school places in the local area increased. As a result, the school is a split site which consists of seven separate buildings standing in extensive grounds.
The school has a swimming pool which was built in the 1970s with money raised by parents, a multi-use games area and a range of zoned outdoor play areas. The area around the school is environmentally rich. The school grounds have an established wildlife area with a pond, a copse of trees, butterfly bank and a winter and summer meadow.
These areas are used by school staff to provide rich learning opportunities for children.
