About

We asked our school community what they love about our school: We are a small Church of England Voluntary Controlled First School. This means we take children from reception to year 4. We have a single form intake every year, with 15 pupils per year group, and mixed age classes.

We have strong links with our local parish church community - The Church of St. Peter-ad-Vincula , as well as with St. Michaels and All Angels Church in Salwarpe and Fernhill Heath Baptist Church through our school federation.

Visits to the school by local clergy e.g. to take collective worship; involvement in the governance of the school, with Revd Laura Handy and Minister Jeff Porter acting as two of our foundation governors; school services held in conjunction with the church throughout the year. The school is also advised, supported and inspected by the local Diocesan Board of Education.

The school is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled First School. As such it owes its origin to the Church although since the 1944 Education Act it is the Local Authority that has been responsible for meeting the costs of the upkeep, repairs and conduct of the school.
