Welcome to Wedmore First School Academy, a kind and inclusive school where we value and promote trusting relationships. When children feel safe and secure, they are able to learn. Our caring and creative staff team promote independence and encourage children to take risks – this develops resilience and boosts self esteem.
Our enquiry curriculum inspires curiosity and a love of learning, we aim to involve children in their learning as much as possible and provide rich and exciting learning opportunities.
Children are taught the skills which enable them to communicate effectively and work with partners and as part of a group, our House system complements this by providing a sense of belonging and encouraging teamwork and healthy competition.
Helping children to get up and running as readers as early on as possible is a top priority for us, our phonics system (Unlocking Letters and Sounds) is highly effective and underpins this. Reading for pleasure is promoted, our central library area and reading therapy dog, Bodie, are a part of this strategy.
