About

A huge welcome from all of us at Hawthorn Independent Special School. Here at Hawthorn we offer a bespoke service to young people who are experiencing trauma and mental health difficulties.

Young people who come to us usually can't or don't attend mainstream schools because of the nature of their mental health problems has left them unable to engage with normal day to day activities. These young people often can't cope with large environments, noise or strange people.

They are unable to engage in mainstream education or even with family at times and become disassociated, anxious, aggressive or distressed very quickly. We aim to provide young people with the oppertunity to re-engage with education, society and find inspiration for life! At Hawthorn we give young people a voice and allow them to be heard.

We support and help them with strategies to overcome the mental health issues that have hindered their personal and educational development. Our cohort will have missed a significant amount of core education and are unable to catch up or re-join mainstream school.
